Project Overview

The Youth Empowerment Scheme, launched in 2017, targets young farmers in the Chad Basin region to boost agricultural productivity and livelihoods. By constructing tubewells and washbores and distributing water pumps, the scheme has enabled irrigation on 248 hectares. It has empowered 248 youths across multiple communities.

Problem Statement

Youth unemployment and lack of access to irrigation resources have limited agricultural opportunities in rural areas. Seasonal water scarcity further restricts farming potential.

Approach Summary

The scheme provides tubewells (1,243 units) and washbores (779 units), along with gasoline (2,890) and solar-powered (188) pumps, to irrigate small plots. Training programs enhance beneficiaries' farming skills.

Scope Details

Covers 248 hectares across communities like Damasak (33ha), Geidam (33ha), and Michika (33ha), benefiting 248 youths. Focuses on Fadama plains for small-scale farming.

Strategic Alignment

Aligns with CBDA's goal of job creation and agricultural development through water resource management.

Key Challenges

Insurgency in some areas and delayed funding have slowed implementation in certain locations.
